The World War II Years
(of Pennsylvania's Heartlands)

Accounts of WWII from those on the battle field and the home front - All storytellers are from Central PA

The book is divided into several sections: 1) The overall impact of the war on Pennsylvanians,
2) Feature stories of personal accounts, including a central Pennsylvanian in the "Black Sheep" Squadron, and
3) The 1937-44 tractors of the WWII era which were used by farmers to provide food for the entire Allied Forces (European fields had been severely damaged or destroyed by heavy bombings).

There are also accounts of POWs; the part Pennsylvania industries (such as steel) played in the war, and much more. -For More Information & To Purchase - CLICK HERE

Volume 1:
Stories of Rural People
(of Pennsylvania's Heartlands)

These stories first appeared in the "I Remember When" column which was initiated with the stories of the author's grandfather, Charles H. Wert. From the weekly newspaper column came snippets of rural life in Pennsylvania before technology, as predominately male storytellers recalled memories which spanned the horse-and-buggy days to seeing a man land on the moon!

Picture yourself seated on the "loafer's bench" at an old-time general store as the men relate tales of days gone by. - For More Information & To Purchase - CLICK HERE

Volume 2:
More Stories of Rural People
(of Pennsylvania's Heartlands)

No matter where a woman lived in Pennsylvania before the advancement of technology following WWII, rural life across the Commonwealth was much the same for the predominately female storytellers in this book.

Most were farm wives, some were one-room school teachers, and one extraordinary woman was a bonafide lumberman!

Of particular interest to men in this book are the photos and stories of central Pennsylvania steam shows. - For More Information & To Purchase - CLICK HERE
